Our History

Formed in 1999, the IIDA Mid Atlantic Chapter (IIDA MAC) is a community composed of ambitious interior designers and architects, manufacturers, vendors, contractors, educators, students and anyone who participates in our unique industry. We all have a common goal of elevating the profession of interior design. We do this through networking, legislative action, continuing education and volunteering. IIDA MAC strives to provide relevant programing and project tours to inspire and educate our members. We take pride in elevating our community’s accomplishments via member spotlights, awards and appreciation events. We are part of a tight-knit design ecosystem with a focus on community over competition, equity and professional development.

Our Mission

IIDA MAC is a professional organization dedicated to advancing the knowledge of interior design among professionals and expanding the awareness and appreciation of interior design among the general public. Serving the District of Columbia, the State of Maryland, and the following counties in Virginia: Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William.

EDUCATE

Our chapter encourages and facilitates the sharing of knowledge amongst our members. From formulating best practices to mentoring the next generation of designers, our focus on education highlights the impact we have on the built environment and the health, safety, and welfare of the general public. We are proud to promote professional development through educational opportunities designed to empower and inspire our members.

ENGAGE

Cultivating a strong sense of community is essential to our chapter’s success and to fostering belonging among our members. We celebrate not only the innovative spaces our professionals bring to life but also the inspiring individuals that create them. When you actively participate in IIDA MAC you will find connections are made, relationships are born, and professional friendships thrive.

ADVOCATE

Our passion for strong legislation that supports the practice of interior design is at the very heart of our chapter. We monitor any current government policies that could sway legislative decisions that impact our profession and licensure in the states of Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
