2023 Breaking Boundaries

Breaking Boundaries 2023:  Neuroaesthetics with Susan Magsamen

SEPTEMBER 22nd, 4-5pm
LOCATION: Renaissance Harborplace Hotel.

Join us in the atrium after the expo from 7-9 for the IIDA MAC After Party.

Breaking Boundaries is an event featuring a wide spectrum of creatives from tangential industries in Baltimore who speak about real life stories relating to their local community. The goal is to quite literally break down the perceived boundaries between the design profession and the communities that thrive inside of our finished projects so that we can continue to learn the importance of human-centric and more diverse design. Exposing this connection will undoubtedly create a ripple effect that inspires you to make change within yourself and the world around you.

Event Speaker

Susan Magsamen

is the founder and executive director of the International Arts + Mind Lab (IAM Lab), Center for Applied Neuroaesthetics, a pioneering initiative from the Pedersen Brain Science Institute at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Her body of work lies at the intersection of brain sciences and the arts—and how our unique response to aesthetic experiences can amplify human potential.  Susan is also the author of Your Brain on Art: How the Arts Transform Us, written with Ivy Ross, Vice President of Design for Hardware at Google. It is a journey through the science of neuroaesthetics that offers proof of how our brains and bodies are transformed when we participate in the arts and aesthetic experiences, and how this knowledge can improve our physical and mental health, help us learn and flourish, and build stronger communities.
